What I never get
Your name, street address, email address and letter stay in your browser. When you send, your own email app (or Gmail or Outlook, if you choose them) sends the letter. I don’t receive a copy.
What the site keeps
- A letter count per riding. When you press a send button or Copy letter, the site adds one to your riding’s count (once a day from each internet connection). The count holds no personal information.
- A one-day duplicate check. To count each person once per riding per day, the site stores a code made from your IP address and a secret random value, next to the riding. It is deleted automatically after 24 hours.
- Step counts. The site records which steps were used (for example “looked up a riding” or “pressed send”), which send button, whether you used a touch screen, whether you added your own words, the riding, and the time. These records hold no IP address, cookie or ID. Cloudflare keeps them for about three months.
The site uses no cookies and no advertising or cross-site tracking tools. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page visits and which site sent the visitor, without cookies and without following you to other sites. About Cloudflare Web Analytics.
Who else handles data
- Cloudflare hosts this site. Like any web host, it receives your IP address with each request. I have turned off the site’s own request logs. Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- OpenNorth Represent finds your riding. Your browser sends it your postal code, or your location rounded to about 100 metres, directly. OpenNorth says its server logs may include your request and IP address, and that it does not share or sell them. OpenNorth’s privacy policy.
- Gmail or Outlook, only if you choose those buttons. The letter is placed in a link to their site, so they receive it as a draft in your account.
- Email to hello@growthegrid.ca goes through Cloudflare’s email forwarding to my Gmail account. I keep it until I no longer need it to answer you, and you can ask me to delete it.
- Share buttons are plain links. Nothing goes to Facebook, X, Bluesky or WhatsApp unless you tap one.
Cloudflare is a US company, and its servers are in many countries.
About this site
- This site shares my personal view on a public policy question. It is not legal, financial or official advice.
- I check every fact against the source linked next to it, but sources change, so I can’t promise every detail is complete or current. Check the source before you rely on it.
- MLA names come from preliminary election results, and the email addresses follow the legislature’s standard format. Results are certified on November 18. If a message bounces before then, try again after that date at leg.bc.ca/members.
- This site is not affiliated with BC Hydro, the Government of British Columbia, the Legislative Assembly, Elections BC or any political party.
